They can be consumed in different ways, make roti, dosa, kichidi or upma, and also try to make kheer with them. You can have Kobbari Korra Biyyam Payasam/ Coconut and Foxtail Millet Porridge using 9 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you cook that.
Ingredients of Kobbari Korra Biyyam Payasam/ Coconut and Foxtail Millet Porridge
- It's 1 cup of Foxtail Millet.
- You need 1/2 cup of Grated Coconut.
- You need 1/2 cup of Roasted Moong Dal.
- Prepare 3.5 cups of Water.
- It's 1.5 cups of Grated Organic Jaggery.
- You need 1 cup of Milk.
- Prepare 1/2 teaspoon of Cardamom powder.
- You need of Roasted Cashewnuts, Raisins, Cherry (optional)- As required.
- You need 1 tablespoon of Clarified Butter/Ghee.
I have used foxtail millet known as korra biyyam in telugu & thinai arisi in tamil. You can use any other millet like kodo millet (varagu), barnyard millet or little millet Foxtail millet is known as kangni in hindi. For kids best is ragi, jowar and pearl millet (bajra). Yes you can use jowar & bajra for khichdi.
Kobbari Korra Biyyam Payasam/ Coconut and Foxtail Millet Porridge instructions
- Wash the roasted moong dal. Add water to pressure cook the moong dal and foxtail millet..
- After a whistle blows, reduce this to a low flame and let it cook for 5 minutes..
- Take a pan, add in clarified butter. Fry the cashew, raisins till they turn golden brown in colour. Keep this aside..
- In the same pan, add in the grated jaggery, grated coconut and mix it well. Then add the cooked millet and moong dal mixture. Stir it well..
- Allow it to cook for 10 minutes on a low flame. Once the jaggery melts, add in the milk and cardamom powder. Mix it well together..
- Cook for another 5 minutes. Then turn off the flame and transfer the sweet in a bowl..
- Garnish with fried cashews, raisins and cherries. Serve it at room temperature, it tastes delicious when served as a dessert..
